​Saanich Neighbourhood Place has been committed to providing accessible, inclusive childcare ever since we opened our preschool in 2013.  We have dedicated as much as 20% of our spaces to offer children with extra support needs a place to play, interact with their peers, and learn. Supported childcare spaces are only possible when we have the capacity to ensure we can also provide experienced childcare staff to work closely with families and children who need extra support. 

Until now, we have been able to access wage subsidies for our supported childcare staff.  Recent changes to the funding model for supported childcare are threatening our ability to continue to offer this care, impacting many families.  Early childhood experiences are foundational in building skills and abilities for all children.  Early access to quality childcare programming is vital to children with extra support needs.
